I haven't been hung up on a finish in a while. but this one has me a little stumped. I got this arch top in and all I need to do is refinish the top. It has binding and F holes that are bound as well. Normally I scrape the binding after I spray all of my color coats. Pretty standard. However, this binding looks to be about a 16th of an inch around the F holes. I've already sprayed a finish on it once. When I went to scrape the binding around the F holes before clearcoating I couldn't seem to do it without running into the finish on the top. It's a burst so touching up is out of the question.

Anyway, I stripped it, sealed it and am ready to spray the burst one more time. I've been brainstorming on ways to get this done without giving myself a heart attack. I thought about taping it off but getting the tape on only a 16th of binding and not on the Spruce doesn't seem possible. At least not to where it'll give a crisp line when I take it off. Also, I'm afraid the tape won't stay on given such limited surface contact. Is there a special tool for scraping bindings around F holes that I'm not aware of?

Thanks in advance.

I would try taping with auto pinstriping tape.

Have you watched the way Benedetto did this? I don't think I possess the skill with a razor blade to do what he did, but his technique is pretty remarkable. It worked for him and he proved it in his instructional video. Check out his guitar building VHS/DVD.
